VERNON, N.J. – Winter4Kids is proud to announce that Lead Groomer Sharif Smith has been named one of SAM Magazine's 2026 "10 Under 30," a prestigious national recognition honoring the ski industry's most promising young professionals. Each year, Ski Area Management (SAM) Magazine recognizes 10 individuals under the age of 30 who are shaping the future of the mountain resort industry through leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Smith's selection reflects the remarkable impact he has made in a short time at Winter4Kids. As Lead Groomer, he oversees the daily preparation of the mountain, manages terrain park operations, and leads a grooming team dedicated to creating exceptional conditions for thousands of young skiers and snowboarders each winter. According to SAM Magazine, his nominators praised him for taking ownership that extends well beyond his job description, noting that he is "actively shaping the experience for every participant who comes through our program."
Smith began his career in the ski industry at just 14 years old at Mount Peter, where he worked for six years before joining Winter4Kids as a part-time groomer in 2025. He quickly advanced into a full-time leadership role, where his dedication, technical expertise, and passion for the sport have helped elevate mountain operations while creating a safe, welcoming environment for youth participants.
"Sharif embodies everything Winter4Kids stands for," said Judie Rullis, CEO of Winter4Kids. "His work happens long before the first chair turns, but it has an incredible impact on every child who visits our mountain. He approaches every day with professionalism, pride, and an unwavering commitment to giving our participants the best possible experience. This national recognition is incredibly well deserved, and we couldn't be prouder to have him representing Winter4Kids and the future of our industry."
At Winter4Kids, Smith's work supports a mission far greater than preparing ski slopes. Every trail he grooms helps create a safe, confidence-building environment where more than 1,800 youth each year learn resilience, perseverance, and life skills through skiing and snowboarding.
"I'm incredibly honored to be recognized by SAM Magazine," said Smith. "I'm grateful to work with an amazing team that shares a passion for creating opportunities for kids. Knowing that the work we do helps young people discover a lifelong love of winter sports makes every early morning and late night worth it."
